These are traits I'd expect from the villains, not the "true moral hero" of the movie."Star Wars: The Last Jedi" has finally landed in theaters, and CNET writers and editors the world over made the Kessel Run to go see it right away.

This could possibly be an interesting take, but the movie actually thinks we're siding with HER! Worse, it tries desperately to tell you that this horrible person is the one that people should look up to if this ever happens, then our society will only become considerably worse, as the ONLY messages she imparts are: Blindly Follow Authority and Do Not Respect Those That Question Your Decisions. She does NOT reassure anyone with hope at any time (contrary to what the site's review claims), but instead just tells everyone that they need to wait and, ultimately, never do anything to try to save their own lives, and whenever anyone brings up that having a plan might be a good thing, she gets incredibly pissy and unprofessional, despite that those who ask for action (mainly Poe) do so with respect. However, Admiral Holdo is perhaps worse, as she is shown to be a hugely toxic human being, and an even more toxic leader.

There have been hours upon hours of essays that you can read or listen to in regards to why The Last Jedi's depiction of Luke is a complete contradiction to how his character would ever be, and the fact that Mark Hammil himself agrees says quite a lot. These would be with Holdo and Luke (no, not Rose - I didn't love Rose but I don't think she herself, nor the actress, were bad). Many people don't think that Story needs to function so long as the Themes are good (a sentiment I genuinely cannot fathom how anyone could feel this way), however on two primarily fronts, it fails completely. However, the story constantly buries itself in a series of contradictions, logistical anomalies, unexplained events happening off screen that carry the story, it frequently undermines its own built-up tension and makes constant uses of McGuffins. The problem ultimately comes down to how much of this was handled - I like a number of the story ideas, I do like the darker tone that much of the movie has (even as it results in action that is purposely unenjoyable to watch), and I've always thought Star Wars needed more female characters those we got were usually good, but I often times felt there was room for more. However, as a movie, it's quite shockingly bad, and one of the few movies that actually made me feel upset after watching it.

Some of the pieces to this film are in place: It features good actors, new and returning, it features excellent music and visual effects, it features a diverse cast and it contains some interesting thematic elements the fact that they clash with the larger story is a problem but I will give them credit for at least trying something.
